Long Weekends Rule
Friday...oh what a day! Friday before a long weekend-pure heaven. I am not really sure if I will be doing anything this weekend, but I am sure looking forward to doing something. Here is the best thing about THIS Friday....it is also PAYDAY!!! This is two great things that go great together (too much TV for me). Long weekend and money ( and fireworks!). Too bad every Friday isn't payday for me. That would be great!
So yesterday I took the kid to Del Ray to do his thing. I decided to take a walk around to check out the little "Village by the Sea" (their tourism council must have come up with that one...not terribly original). There are about a bazillion shops and bars there. My kind of place! Especially the bars part. Anywhoooooo.....imagine my surprise when I come upon barracades blocking Atlantic Ave. Mind you, this is the major thoroughfare in and out of "downtown". I had no idea what the heck was going on. There were port-a-potties and Waste Management cardboard trash cans everywhere. Must be a street fair...and I just LOVES a good street fair. Luckily for me, they have those fancy light poles with banners on them explaining that there would be a Jazz and Art Festival from 6-10 pm. WTF? 6-10 pm....hardly time to get started.
So, as I am walking along window shopping my phone rings. My sister. Oh, snap! I forgot to call her back the other day. I answer the phone.
Evil: Hey, sorry I haven't called you back.
Sis: Huh? Oh, right. That's okay.
Evil: What's up?
Sis: Not much. What's up with you?
( I should note here that noone in my family EVER, EVER, EVER calls me unless they want something or want to milk me for information.)
Evil: Nothing, just street walking. (What else would Evil be doing on a Thurday eve?)
Sis: What?!
Evil: Nevermind...what's going on in the panhandle? (She lives in Florida, too.)
Sis: You know, the usual. (She has 5 kids and left her husband of 15 years this year to run off with a childhood sweetheart....I am hoping NOT the usual!)
Evil: The usual?
Sis: Yeah, all the kids are here. (Meaning her 5 kids and his 3 kids=grand total 8 freaking kids. Oh. My. God!!!!)
Evil: Going crazy?
Sis: Nah. So did I tell you what the kids' dad did? (Here it comes, the reason for the call)
Evil: You have told me lots of things...what specifically are you referring to?
Sis: The call about visiting this summer.
Evil: Oh, yeah, you told me.
Sis: Well, ........(this is the part where she tells me again what she already told me)...(zzz...zzz...zzz).
About this time as I am "Uh huh. Yeah. You're right."ing my way through the conversation, I see some guys painting a mural in the side of a building with spray paint. Not for nothing, but it was very cool to watch and they were doing a bang-up job on it. Now this is way more interesting than my sister's rehash of the phone call. WAY more interesting. Evil has mild ADD...So, I lost track...of her. Totally. Ooooopps!!! Honestly, I don't remember a freaking thing she said until.....
Sis:....so do you know anyone in Alexandria any more?
Evil: Huh? Alex who?
Sis: Alexandria...where you used to live.
Evil: That was like 12 years ago. I don't know anyone there. I only lived there for like a year.
Sis: I know. I was just hoping you still knew someone there who could help me find a good attorney. The divorce case is there.(Ahhhhh, now the real reason for the call. It all makes sense now.)
Evil: Well if you had asked me for one in Dallas, I could have gotten you one with a single phone call. I never looked back after leaving Louisiana.
Sis: Yeah, I know. I just thought I would ask.
And that was that.
In summary: Took kid to do community service, street walked, Sis called for help. Not a weird day, but whatever.
