Camping in the Keys

Well, the kid's birthday was Friday and since the fiasco with the vet occured, I decided that the 3 of us (Crash, the Kid, and Evil One) needed a little time away. On a whim I reserved us a campsite at Sugarloaf Key KOA (that's Kampgrounds of America for you non-camping folks). They allow dogs at all their grounds and I can't leave the dog home alone (the cats might kill her and she has a little separation anxiety thing-Chihuahuas.) Friday we had cake and packed. Saturday we were up early an on our way south to Sugarloaf Key. Sugarloaf Key is about 15-20 minutes to Key West which is one of my most favoritest places to go ever...favoritest is too a word. Let it go.

We got to the grounds and set up the tent and basically got things in order. It is easy to get things in order when you are used to backpacking. Everything is compact and generally simple, so a site can be readied in a very short time. After setting up camp I took a dip in the pool while the kid kept the dog. Yes, in the pool. They also have a jacuzzi, beach, marina, etc. It is kind of like being in a resort, but sleeping in a tent. Sleeping in the tent wasn't all that bad considering I brought an air mattress. We went to Key West for the sunset...which was crappy because clouds blocked the view but the street shows were entertaining. Sword swallowers, escape artists, and tight rope walking dogs. Over the top, but fun to make fun of. The puppy had a blast. She just loves people and everyone loves to stop and pet her and tell us how cute she is.

All in all we had a pretty good weekend despite the heat. Remind me to tell you about the racoons.....
